Doctoral Day in Gender History
On 23-24 October 2025, I participated in the Doctoral day in Gender History at The University of Graz. the Doctoral Day was organised by Prof Heidrun Zettelbauer. The aim was to inspire discussion about different ways of doing gender history and developing a supportive, interdisciplinary and non-hierarchical research culture.
With Ingrid Sharpe and Louise Earnshaw, I co-led the first panel on “Ways of Knowing” in the course of which we showed our creative documentary and engaged the group in a range of activities designed to overcome hierarchies and get the students and faculty to bond.
We then formed discussion groups and focused on ways of introducing a creative, interdisciplinary and supportive research culture into our research practices, despite the strictures of neoliberal, competitive academia.
